A 77-year-old Australian man, Kenneth Leslie Sternes, was found dead inside his hotel room in East Denpasar, Bali.
Hotel staff at the Cove Griya Elite forced entry into his room on Wednesday afternoon after he failed to check out and didn’t respond to repeated knocks. His body was discovered on the floor.
According to East Denpasar Police Chief I Ketut Tomiyasa, there were no signs of violence or foul play. Police believe Sternes died from natural causes, likely related to illness. Preliminary checks suggest he had been dead for around six hours before being found.
Officers found insulin, medication, injection marks on his wrist, and a catheter attached to his body, along with two mobile phones, a wallet, and his passport.
Sternes was a convicted sex offender. In 2011, the former pharmacist was sentenced to 13 months in prison in Queensland after a Brisbane court found him guilty of grooming a 14-year-old girl and sending her explicit photos and videos. He was arrested after arranging to meet the girl, who turned out to be an undercover police officer.
The case has drawn renewed attention following his sudden death while holidaying in Bali. Authorities are awaiting full autopsy results to confirm the exact cause of death.
